Policy on Refusing Admission

Meeting minimum academic admission requirements for any of the Massage Therapy Programs does not guarantee an offer of admission to the program. Applicants can be refused admission if the Director of Academics believes they do not stand a reasonable chance of completing the program or becoming registered with the CMTO. Reasons for refusal of admission based on this criteria include: poor academic achievement in high school or while attending another academic institution, based on transcript provided with the application, a display of immaturity or lack of professionalism at any time throughout the application process (meeting with massage therapy program coordinator, communication with front desk staff, communication with other massage therapy students etc.) or if they conduct themselves inappropriately or make comments considered derogatory or offensive to any student or staff member of OCHT.

Policy on English Language Proficiency

Applicants must be able to speak and write English with reasonable fluency. All activities (lectures, seminars, laboratories, etc.) at Ontario College of Health & Technology are conducted in English. It is essential that every student possess strong English writing, comprehension and speaking skills in order to be successful with the program curriculum and any other components of the program (student clinic and outreach). Our language fluency policy for admission to the program contains the same expectations as those of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario for registering for the Certification Examinations.

Decision Criteria

An applicant may meet the language fluency requirement by providing proof, acceptable to the college of one of the following:

  • An applicant’s first language is English.
  • An applicant has completed his/her secondary school education in English.*
  • An applicant has completed a post-secondary degree or diploma program in English
  • An applicant has completed a standardized English language test approved by the College within the past two years and achieved the required scores set by the College.
